The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a businesswoman at Lagos airport after officers found 7.5 kilograms of cocaine hidden in her luggage.
IKEJA, LAGOS — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has arrested Iwebema Ogechi Peace, a 38-year-old businesswoman, after officers discovered 7.5 kilograms of cocaine concealed in her luggage at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. According to the agency, the suspect was preparing to board a Qatar Airways flight to Beijing, China, when operatives intercepted her.
The agency said the suspect was arrested on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the departure hall of Terminal 2 of the Lagos airport following credible intelligence. A search of her check-in luggage led to the discovery of four large parcels of cocaine hidden inside a professionally created false bottom in the bag.
According to the NDLEA, the recovered narcotics weighed a total of 7.5 kilograms. The suspect reportedly told investigators that she regularly travels to China to purchase goods for sale in Nigeria. The anti-narcotics agency said investigations into the case are ongoing and that further action will follow in line with the law.
The arrest adds to a series of interceptions by the NDLEA at airports and other entry points across Nigeria. The agency has continued to intensify efforts against international trafficking networks and has repeatedly warned that traffickers now use more sophisticated methods to conceal illegal substances.
The development means security checks at Nigerian airports are likely to remain strict as authorities increase surveillance on international travel routes used by trafficking syndicates.
