KADUNA, NIGERIA — The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has accused former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, of breaching conditions attached to court-approved medical visits granted during his ongoing trial. According to the commission, the alleged violation forms part of issues arising from the implementation of the court’s order regarding El-Rufai’s access to medical care.
According to the ICPC, the court had permitted El-Rufai to receive medical attention at approved facilities under strict supervision while he remained in the commission’s custody. The commission said the conditions were designed to ensure compliance with the court’s directives while allowing the former governor access to necessary healthcare during the trial.
The commission alleged that El-Rufai failed to comply fully with the approved medical visit arrangements. It also confirmed that actions had been taken as part of its investigation into the alleged breach. However, based on information publicly released by the ICPC as of the time of filing this report, the commission has not announced the arrest of El-Rufai’s personal doctor.
El-Rufai is currently facing multiple charges filed by the ICPC in separate proceedings over alleged corruption, abuse of office and money laundering linked to his tenure as governor of Kaduna State. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, while the courts continue to hear applications and other preliminary matters in the cases.
The development means the legal proceedings against El-Rufai are likely to remain under close public scrutiny as the courts continue hearing the cases.
