Bola Tinubu has defended one of his administration’s major financial decisions. The President said removing the FCTA from the Treasury Single Account has helped speed up infrastructure delivery across Abuja.

ABUJA, FCT — President Bola Tinubu has defended the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s exit from the Treasury Single Account, saying the decision gave the FCTA greater financial flexibility to deliver infrastructure projects faster. The President made the remarks on Monday while commissioning the new Office Annex of the Body of Benchers and staff quarters at the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, Abuja, according to a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the President said the policy removed bureaucratic delays that previously slowed project execution in the nation’s capital. According to the statement, Tinubu also commended Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, for turning the policy into visible development across Abuja through road construction and other public infrastructure.

Speaking during the event, Tinubu said critics questioned the decision to exempt the FCTA from the Treasury Single Account, but the results have justified the policy. He said the administration wanted the FCTA to have the liquidity and operational flexibility needed to deliver critical projects without unnecessary administrative delays. The statement also quoted the President as saying Wike had fulfilled his mandate to transform Abuja into a modern and functional capital city.

The President further rejected claims that the Executive was interfering with the judiciary by investing in legal infrastructure. According to the statement, he said providing infrastructure for courts and other legal institutions remains part of the Executive’s constitutional responsibility. He also highlighted the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy to the Nigerian Law School after years without formal documentation as one of the achievements under the current FCTA administration.

The development means the Federal Government intends to continue using financial reforms to accelerate infrastructure delivery in the Federal Capital Territory. It also signals continued support for projects under the FCTA as the administration pursues its Renewed Hope Agenda. Officials are expected to commission additional infrastructure projects across Abuja in the coming weeks as construction continues in key sectors.
