Fresh attacks on security personnel have drawn the attention of lawmakers. The Senate has called for urgent action to protect military personnel and strengthen national security.

ABUJA, FCT — The Nigerian Senate has expressed concern over what it described as a disturbing pattern of attacks targeting military personnel across the country. During plenary, lawmakers urged the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect troops and strengthen ongoing operations against armed groups.

According to the Senate, repeated attacks on members of the Armed Forces pose a serious threat to national security and could affect ongoing efforts to restore peace in troubled parts of the country. Lawmakers said security agencies require adequate operational support, intelligence and equipment to respond effectively to emerging threats. They also stressed the need for stronger collaboration among security institutions.

Speaking during deliberations, senators commended the courage and sacrifices of military personnel serving in various conflict zones across Nigeria. They observed that many officers and soldiers continue to risk their lives to defend the country despite increasing security challenges. The lawmakers urged the relevant authorities to prioritise the welfare, safety and operational needs of troops.

Nigeria has continued to face security challenges in several regions, including insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and communal violence. The Armed Forces remain actively involved in joint security operations aimed at protecting communities and restoring stability. In recent months, concerns have grown over reports of attacks on military formations and personnel in some parts of the country.

The development means the Senate is seeking stronger government action to improve the safety of military personnel while reinforcing national security efforts. Lawmakers are expected to continue engaging relevant agencies on measures that will enhance operational effectiveness, strengthen intelligence gathering and provide better support for troops serving on the front lines.
