UYO, AKWA IBOM — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command says its operatives foiled an alleged attack on a traditional ruler’s palace in Essien Udim Local Government Area and arrested a 42-year-old suspect. According to the command, officers recovered a locally made pistol during the operation after acting on credible intelligence.

Police said the operation followed reports of a planned security threat around the palace. According to the command, officers moved to the location, intercepted the suspect, and recovered the firearm. The police added that the suspect is currently in custody while investigators continue efforts to determine whether other individuals were involved.

The Police Command said preliminary investigations are ongoing and assured residents that officers remain committed to protecting lives and property across the state. Police also advised residents to remain calm and report any suspicious movements through official communication channels.

Security agencies have continued to increase surveillance in parts of Akwa Ibom as part of efforts to improve public safety and respond to intelligence reports. The Nigeria Police Force has repeatedly encouraged community members to cooperate with law enforcement by sharing timely and credible information that can help prevent security incidents.
