Police have intensified efforts against violent crime in Oyo State. Two suspected robbers are now in custody after officers recovered a firearm during an operation.
IBADAN, OYO — The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a firearm during a security operation along the Oyo-Iwo Expressway. According to the command, the suspects were apprehended following intelligence-led policing aimed at tackling criminal activities on the busy highway.
Police said operatives intercepted the suspects during the operation and recovered a firearm believed to have been used in previous robbery incidents. According to the command, officers also secured other exhibits that will assist investigators in determining the suspects’ alleged involvement in criminal activities within the state.
In a statement, the police said the suspects are currently in custody while detectives continue investigations. The command added that the recovered firearm has been taken for forensic examination and that efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the suspected criminal group. Police also urged residents to continue providing credible information that could assist security operations.
The Oyo-Iwo Expressway is one of the major transport routes in Oyo State and has remained under increased security surveillance due to concerns over criminal activities affecting motorists and commuters.
