ABUJA, NIGERIA — Senator Natasha Akpoti has alleged that a Commissioner of Police advised her to employ thugs after she presented video evidence which she claimed showed police officers working alongside suspected criminals in her state. The senator made the allegation during a public appearance, where she criticised the handling of her complaint.
According to Akpoti, she submitted video recordings to the Commissioner of Police, alleging that some officers were openly collaborating with thugs and other criminal elements. She claimed she expected the police command to investigate the evidence and take disciplinary action against any officers found culpable. However, she alleged that the response she received was unexpected.
Speaking about the incident, Akpoti said, “I took video evidence to the Commissioner of Police in my state showing how his officers were openly working with thugs and criminals. Instead of acting on it, the CP looked at me and said, ‘You should employ your own thugs too.'” Extra News Nigeria has not independently verified the allegation, and the senator did not identify the commissioner by name in the statement reviewed for this report.
