JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA — Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former Governor of Kano State and Vice presidential candidate of NDC, announced on Saturday that he had arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to perform the Umrah pilgrimage. According to a statement shared on his official social media page, Kwankwaso said he looks forward to a spiritually uplifting and inspiring experience.
Kwankwaso expressed gratitude for a safe journey, saying, “Alhamdulillah, I have arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia today. Looking forward to a spiritually uplifting and inspiring Umrah.” The former presidential candidate also extended prayers for Nigeria, asking Almighty Allah to bless the country with lasting peace, prosperity and unity.
The statement reads, “May Almighty Allah bless our beloved country with lasting peace, prosperity, and unity. Ameen.” The message has drawn reactions from supporters and well-wishers, many of whom prayed for the successful completion of his pilgrimage and a safe return to Nigeria.
Umrah is an Islamic pilgrimage to the holy cities of Saudi Arabia that Muslims can perform at any time of the year, unlike Hajj, which takes place during specific dates on the Islamic calendar. Every year, thousands of Nigerian Muslims travel to Saudi Arabia to observe the spiritual exercise.
The development means Kwankwaso joins many prominent Nigerian political and religious figures who undertake Umrah as part of their spiritual obligations.
