The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC says electoral reforms and technology have ended ballot box snatching and result manipulation in Nigeria.

ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared that the era of ballot box snatching and election result manipulation in Nigeria is over. The commission expressed confidence in the country’s ongoing electoral reforms and technological improvements, saying recent innovations have strengthened the integrity of the electoral process.

According to INEC, reforms introduced in recent years have improved election management and reduced opportunities for interference in the voting and collation processes. The commission said technological tools deployed during elections have increased transparency and enhanced public confidence in the system.

INEC maintained that it remains committed to conducting free, fair and credible elections across the country. The commission noted that continuous improvements in electoral procedures and technology would further protect the sanctity of the ballot and ensure that the will of voters prevails.

The declaration comes amid continued public discussions about Nigeria’s electoral process and the performance of election management bodies. While some elections in recent years have witnessed improvements in the use of technology and result management systems, concerns have also been raised by political parties and civil society groups over the conduct of certain polls and the implementation of electoral guidelines.

The development means future elections will serve as a major test of INEC’s confidence in the country’s electoral reforms. The commission’s assurance has generated mixed reactions among Nigerians, with some welcoming the statement as a sign of progress while others insist that only the conduct of upcoming elections will determine whether ballot box snatching and result manipulation have truly become things of the past.
