A fresh legal battle is unfolding in Abuja. Femi Gbajabiamila has rejected serious allegations against him and is demanding billions of naira in damages.
ABUJA, FCT — Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, has threatened to file a N10 billion defamation suit against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi over allegations linking him to murder and bribery. According to a letter issued by Gbajabiamila’s legal representatives, the claims are false, defamatory and capable of damaging his reputation.
According to the legal team, the allegations reportedly originated from an organisation described in the letter as a “fake agency.” The lawyers alleged that Adeyemi published and circulated the claims despite their damaging nature. They demanded an immediate retraction of the statements, a public apology and a commitment to stop further publication of the allegations.
The legal representatives warned that failure to comply with the demands would leave their client with no option but to seek legal redress. The letter stated that Gbajabiamila intends to pursue N10 billion in damages if the matter proceeds to court. As of the time of reporting, Adeyemi had not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the legal notice.
Defamation cases involving prominent public officials have become more common in Nigeria as political figures increasingly turn to the courts to challenge statements they consider damaging to their reputations. Under Nigerian law, individuals who believe false statements have harmed their reputation may seek remedies through civil litigation, including financial compensation and public retractions.
