Destiny Etiko has made an emotional appeal for help. The Nollywood actress says colleague Ikechukwu Nweke needs urgent financial support as he continues treatment for colon cancer.
LAGOS, NIGERIA — Destiny Etiko has appealed to Nigerians to support Nollywood actor and director Ikechukwu Nweke, who is undergoing treatment for colon cancer. The actress made the appeal in an emotional video shared on her Instagram page on Friday, July 10, 2026, where she appeared alongside the actor in a hospital, explaining the financial burden of his treatment.
According to Nweke, doctors diagnosed him with colon cancer in 2025, after which he underwent surgery. He said he is currently receiving chemotherapy but can no longer afford the cost of continued treatment. The actor explained that he had exhausted his savings and sold some of his personal belongings to keep paying for medical care.
“I tried to handle it quietly. I’ve spent a huge amount, my family has given a lot, and people in the industry have also helped,” Nweke said in the video. He added, “Doctors said the treatment will cost a lot. I can’t fund it with my savings anymore. I’ve sold some of my belongings just to keep going. Please, any amount will help me get better and stay alive.”
Etiko described the situation as emotionally difficult because of her close relationship with the actor. In her Instagram post, she said those close to Nweke initially tried to manage the situation privately but realised they could no longer bear the financial responsibility alone. According to the actress, more than ₦15 million has already been spent on his treatment, while an additional ₦17 million is needed to continue his medical care.
The development means Ikechukwu Nweke’s treatment now depends largely on public support and contributions from well-wishers. Medical experts have long advised that early diagnosis and consistent treatment improve outcomes for colon cancer patients, but the cost of care remains a major challenge for many Nigerians. As Nweke continues chemotherapy, his family, colleagues and supporters are hoping that donations will help him complete his treatment and recovery.
