Dangote Reduces Petrol Price As Crude Oil Falls Below $72

Dangote Refinery has announced another reduction in petrol prices following a decline in global crude oil prices to below $72 per barrel.

LAGOS, NIGERIA — Dangote Refinery has cut the price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol, after international crude oil prices dropped below $72 per barrel. According to industry reports, the refinery adjusted its ex-depot price in response to the softer global oil market and changing supply conditions.

The latest price reduction comes as Brent crude continued to trade below the $72 mark, easing pressure on production costs in the downstream petroleum sector. Industry analysts said lower crude prices often create room for refiners and marketers to review pump prices downward, depending on exchange rates and operational costs.

According to reports, the new adjustment by Dangote Refinery is expected to influence retail prices across several filling stations that source products from the facility. Marketers said the reduction could also increase competition in the domestic fuel market and provide some relief for consumers and businesses dealing with high transportation and energy costs.

The refinery has made several price adjustments since it commenced large-scale fuel distribution in Nigeria. The company has repeatedly stated that its goal is to stabilise fuel supply, reduce dependence on imports and support lower energy costs for Nigerians. Market observers also note that petrol prices remain sensitive to global crude oil movements and fluctuations in the value of the naira.

Nigeria’s downstream oil sector has experienced significant changes since the removal of petrol subsidies, with pump prices increasingly determined by market conditions. Changes in international oil prices now play a more direct role in shaping domestic fuel costs and consumer spending.

The development means motorists and businesses may see a modest reduction in fuel expenses if marketers pass the latest price adjustment to consumers. It also highlights the growing influence of Dangote Refinery on Nigeria’s petroleum market and the connection between global crude prices and local fuel costs.
