Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has welcomed the dismissal of a suit challenging the leadership of the African Democratic Congress in Abuja.

ABUJA, FCT , Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday praised the Federal High Court for dismissing a case that challenged the leadership of the African Democratic Congress, describing the ruling as a victory for democracy and the rule of law. According to a statement released by his media team, the court rejected attempts to use the judiciary for political battles.

Atiku said the ruling reaffirmed the independence of the courts and protected the democratic rights of political parties to manage their internal affairs. According to the statement, the former vice president insisted that legal institutions should not become instruments for settling political disagreements.

The former presidential candidate said the judgment showed that the judiciary remains committed to justice and fairness. “The court is not a tool for political warfare,” he said, adding that the dismissal of the case represented a rejection of efforts to undermine democratic processes. The statement also praised the court for upholding constitutional principles.

The suit had sought to challenge the leadership structure of the ADC, a party that has remained active in Nigeria’s political space ahead of future political activities and alliances. Political parties in Nigeria have frequently faced internal and external legal disputes over leadership positions and party administration.

The development means the current ADC leadership has secured a temporary legal victory and can continue its activities without immediate judicial interference from the dismissed suit. It also highlights the growing role of the courts in resolving political disputes while reinforcing concerns about attempts to use legal actions to influence party structures.
