Atiku Abubakar has called on Nigerians to move beyond complaints and participate in the country’s electoral process. The former vice president made the appeal after meeting members of the ADC Global Network in Abuja.
ABUJA, FCT — Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, has urged Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora to take active part in future elections, saying meaningful change requires participation in the democratic process. He made the call after hosting members of the ADC Global Network, led by Hon. Victoria Pamugo, in Abuja on Monday, according to a statement shared on his official social media page.
According to Atiku, members of the delegation expressed concern about the current state of the country under the administration of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC). He said they also raised issues about Nigeria’s image abroad and the need for citizens to contribute to efforts aimed at improving governance through democratic means.
In his statement, Atiku Abubakar commended the group for choosing to engage in the political process instead of limiting their concerns to public criticism. “Like millions of Nigerians, they are frustrated with the state of Nigeria under the Tinubu-led APC government. Even more concerning is the negative image being projected of our country abroad,” he said. He added, “It is time for action. Well-meaning Nigerians, both at home and abroad, must participate in our upcoming electoral processes and lead the way for the genuine change they seek.”
The meeting comes as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has recently attracted attention following the movement of several opposition politicians into the party as discussions on coalition politics continue. Political stakeholders have continued to engage supporters across Nigeria and the diaspora ahead of future electoral contests.
The development means opposition figures are intensifying efforts to mobilise support ahead of the next general elections. Atiku’s message places renewed emphasis on voter participation as a key strategy for political change.
