- Police have rescued five kidnapped victims and arrested 88 suspects during a major security operation in forests across Lagos and Ogun states.
IKEJA, LAGOS — The Lagos State and Ogun State Police Commands have rescued five kidnapped victims and arrested 88 suspects during a joint security operation known as Operation Kosaye. Police said the operation targeted criminal hideouts and camps located inside forests across both states.
According to the police, the operation involved coordinated raids on identified locations believed to serve as bases for kidnappers and other criminal groups. Security operatives reportedly rescued five victims during the operation and arrested dozens of suspects for further investigation.
Police authorities said the operation formed part of efforts to strengthen security and address rising concerns over kidnapping and other criminal activities in border communities between Lagos and Ogun states. The commands also stated that items linked to criminal activities were recovered during the raids, although full details were not immediately disclosed.
The police explained that Operation Kosaye was designed to disrupt criminal networks operating within forest areas and prevent further attacks on residents. Authorities assured the public that investigations would continue and that suspects found culpable would face prosecution in line with the law.
Security agencies in Nigeria have increasingly carried out joint operations to tackle criminal activities in remote areas, especially forests that have become hideouts for kidnapping gangs and other armed groups. Residents in affected communities have repeatedly called for stronger security measures to protect lives and property.
The development means security agencies may sustain coordinated operations across state boundaries to dismantle criminal camps and improve safety for residents and travellers in Lagos, Ogun and neighbouring communities.
