A heated session erupted in the House of Representatives after a lawmaker demanded President Bola Tinubu’s appearance before lawmakers. The motion followed concerns over constituency project funding and Nigeria’s security situation.
ABUJA, NIGERIA — Alex Mascot, the lawmaker representing Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency of Abia State, has moved a motion in the House of Representatives calling for President Bola Tinubu to appear before lawmakers and explain the continued concerns over funding for constituency projects. The motion was presented during plenary, according to proceedings in the House.
During the debate, Mascot expressed concern about the country’s security challenges and the pace of public infrastructure spending. According to him, many communities continue to face serious security threats while constituency projects remain underfunded. He argued that lawmakers deserve clarification on the government’s funding priorities and implementation of projects intended to benefit constituents.
The Abia lawmaker also questioned the allocation of public funds to major infrastructure projects while communities continue to experience insecurity. He urged the House to invite the President to provide explanations on the issue and address concerns surrounding constituency development. His remarks formed part of the debate on the motion before members of the House of Representatives.
Constituency projects have remained a recurring subject of discussion within the National Assembly, with lawmakers often raising concerns over budget implementation and the release of approved funds. Security has also continued to dominate legislative discussions as elected officials call for stronger measures to protect lives and property across different parts of the country.
