Fans thought they had seen the last of Ray Emodi on screen. Months after announcing his exit from acting, the Nollywood star has explained why he stepped away and why he has now decided to return.

LAGOS, NIGERIA — Ray Emodi, a Nollywood actor and singer, has announced his return to acting after taking a break from the profession due to burnout. In a video shared with his followers, the actor apologised for previously telling fans he had retired from acting to focus entirely on music, saying the decision came after years of physical and emotional exhaustion.

According to Emodi, he had worked continuously in the film industry from 2017 until the end of 2025, appearing in about 300 productions, including feature films, television series and short films. He explained that the demanding schedule left him exhausted because he rarely took breaks or holidays. The actor said he reached a point where he needed time away from the industry to rediscover his passion for acting.

Emodi said he studied acting professionally and holds a master’s degree in Acting for Film, making the craft an important part of his life. He admitted that announcing he was leaving acting to focus only on music confused many fans and described the decision as one he should have handled differently. He apologised to his supporters and promised to approach his career with better balance in the future.

The actor also revealed that he has no intention of returning to his previous workload. Instead, he said he will carefully select projects that allow him to remain creatively fulfilled without sacrificing his health. According to him, his goal has always been to make a positive impact through storytelling rather than accepting every available role for financial reasons.

The development means Ray Emodi is set to resume his acting career with a more measured approach that prioritises his wellbeing. His experience also highlights the growing conversation around mental health, work-life balance and burnout in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, where many actors continue to manage demanding production schedules while maintaining their creative careers.
