JUST IN: Livinus Nwosu has alleged that police officers along the Benin-Sapele Road impounded his vehicle despite his valid tinted glass permit.
BENIN CITY, EDO , Livinus Nwosu has claimed that police officers stopped him along the Benin-Sapele Road and impounded his vehicle over its tinted windows despite his possession of a valid permit. According to a social media post by Nwosu, the officers said they were acting on a directive from the Inspector General of Police.
Nwosu said he presented his valid tinted glass permit to the officers, but they allegedly insisted that all vehicles with tinted windows must be impounded regardless of whether the owners possessed permits. He further claimed that the officers told him the directive came directly from the Inspector General of Police.
According to Nwosu, he initially believed the enforcement exercise applied only within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. He also alleged that after arriving at the police station and mentioning the name of social media activist VeryDarkMan, the officers began apologising and allowed him to leave with his vehicle.
The Nigeria Police Force recently resumed stricter enforcement of regulations concerning tinted glass permits across parts of the country. The enforcement has generated public reactions, with many motorists seeking clarification on whether valid permits remain recognised outside Abuja and under what conditions vehicles can be impounded.
The development means motorists may continue to seek more information on the enforcement of tinted glass regulations and the status of existing permits. As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force had not issued an official response to Nwosu’s specific allegations.
