LAGOS, NIGERIA — Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested suspected Togolese army deserters, cable vandals and other suspected criminals during separate operations across Lagos State.
The Lagos State Command of the NSCDC announced the arrests as part of its ongoing efforts to tackle crime and protect critical national assets in the state. According to the command, the operations led to the arrest of individuals suspected of involvement in cable vandalism, theft and other criminal activities.
The command also disclosed that some of those taken into custody are suspected deserters from the Togolese military. However, it did not immediately provide details on how the suspects entered Nigeria or the circumstances surrounding their arrest.
According to the NSCDC, cable vandalism remains a major threat to public infrastructure and essential services. The agency said it has continued to strengthen surveillance and intelligence-driven operations to protect government facilities and other critical infrastructure from sabotage and theft.
Security experts have repeatedly warned that vandalism of electricity and communication infrastructure disrupts economic activities, affects businesses and imposes heavy repair costs on both public and private operators. Authorities have also intensified collaboration with other security agencies to curb cross-border crime and dismantle criminal networks operating within the country.
