  • A Nigerian man has shared how he discovered that a worker allegedly kept part of the money given to purchase a padlock.

IKEJA, LAGOS — A Nigerian man has narrated an experience involving a worker he sent to buy a padlock with N10,000. According to his account shared on social media, the worker returned with the padlock and handed him N1,000 as the remaining change.

The man said he accepted both the padlock and the N1,000 without questioning the transaction. However, he later decided to inquire about the price of the same type of padlock while shopping for another item.

According to him, the seller informed him that the padlock costs N7,000. The discovery made him conclude that the worker had allegedly kept N2,000 from the money he was given while returning only N1,000 as change.

The man said he was surprised by the situation and questioned why the worker did not keep the entire N3,000 if he had intended to be dishonest. His story has since attracted reactions on social media, with many users sharing similar experiences involving errands and purchases.

Incidents involving disagreements over money and purchases frequently generate discussions online, especially when they involve trust between employers and workers. Social media users often use such experiences to highlight the importance of verifying prices and maintaining accountability in financial transactions.

According to ENN the development means many Nigerians may become more cautious when sending others on errands involving cash transactions and may pay closer attention to receipts and market prices to avoid misunderstandings and financial losses.
