KANO, NIGERIA — Rabiu Kwankwaso attended the turbaning ceremony of Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud, who was conferred with the traditional title of Garkuwan Kano at the Emir’s Palace in Kano. The event also featured the conferment of another traditional title on retired Air Marshal Muhammad Dikko Umar by the Emir of Kano.
According to Kwankwaso, the ceremony saw Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, confer the title of Sarkin Fulanin Ja’idnawan Kano on Air Marshal Muhammad Dikko Umar (Rtd). The former Kano governor described the occasion as colourful and dignified, attracting notable personalities from across the country.
Kwankwaso said former President Olusegun Obasanjo attended the event alongside other distinguished guests. Photos and videos from the ceremony later surfaced online, drawing attention to the gathering of influential traditional and political figures in Kano.
Traditional title conferments remain an important part of northern Nigeria’s cultural heritage and often attract senior political leaders, business figures and community stakeholders.
