VeryDarkMan has received unexpected political advice from a traditional ruler. The Oluwo of Iwo says the activist should move beyond advocacy and seek elective office in Nigeria.
IWO, OSUN STATE — Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has advised social media activist VeryDarkMan, popularly known as VDM, to consider a career in politics. Speaking while receiving the activist at his palace, the monarch said VDM should build on his public influence by contesting elective offices, beginning with the House of Representatives or the Senate before aspiring to become Nigeria’s president.

Why This Happened
According to remarks made during the palace visit, the traditional ruler believes activism can serve as a foundation for public service through elected office. He encouraged VeryDarkMan to channel his popularity and engagement with public issues into the political process rather than limiting his efforts to advocacy.
The monarch suggested that gaining legislative experience would prepare the activist for higher responsibilities in government.
What They Said
The Oluwo advised VeryDarkMan to contest for either the House of Representatives or the Senate as the next step in his public journey.
He further encouraged the activist to consider contesting for the presidency in the future, expressing confidence that experience in elective office would strengthen his leadership credentials. VeryDarkMan did not publicly announce any political ambition during the visit.
Who Is VeryDarkMan?
VeryDarkMan, whose real name is Martins Vincent Otse, is a Nigerian social media activist and content creator. He is widely known for commenting on public affairs, consumer issues and governance, often using his online platforms to draw attention to matters affecting Nigerians.
What This Means for Nigeria
The development adds to the growing conversation about the role of activists in Nigeria’s political landscape. While public advocacy and elective politics serve different purposes, some observers believe activists can bring grassroots experience into government if they choose to seek public office. Any decision by VeryDarkMan to contest an election would depend on his personal interest and compliance with Nigeria’s electoral laws.
