The Nigeria Customs Service has assured investors of stronger support for legitimate businesses. Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi said compliant companies remain key partners in Nigeria’s economic growth.
ABUJA, FCT — Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi has reaffirmed the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) commitment to supporting legitimate businesses and facilitating lawful trade, assuring Renaissance Africa Energy Limited of continued collaboration to promote investment, energy security and economic growth. He gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the company’s management to the NCS Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
Adeniyi congratulated Renaissance Africa Energy Limited on completing its corporate transition, describing the milestone as evidence that Nigerian companies can successfully manage and expand strategic national assets. He said the Customs Service exists to support compliant businesses while carrying out its statutory responsibilities. According to him, reforms under the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) have continued to improve the ease of doing business across the country.
“There is a misconception in some quarters that Customs exists to frustrate businesses. That is not who we are. When legitimate businesses grow, Customs also grows. Our responsibility is to facilitate lawful trade while carrying out our statutory mandate,” Adeniyi said. He also encouraged the company to complete the requirements for the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme, noting that although the certification process is demanding, it offers significant benefits to compliant traders. He assured the company that Customs would continue removing legitimate trade bottlenecks and providing lawful support to businesses that meet regulatory obligations.
Earlier, Meshack Maichibi, Vice President, Production at Renaissance Africa Energy Limited, said the company assumed operations in March 2026 after acquiring the onshore assets of the Shell Petroleum Development Company. He explained that the company aims to strengthen Nigeria’s energy future through investments across the upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas sectors. Maichibi commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its professionalism, digitalised procedures, timely approvals and commitment to transparent operations. He added that the company maintains zero tolerance for duty evasion and looks forward to deeper collaboration with Customs across its Commands.
The development means the partnership between the Nigeria Customs Service and Renaissance Africa Energy Limited could strengthen trade facilitation, encourage regulatory compliance and support investment in Nigeria’s energy sector. It also reflects the Federal Government’s broader efforts to improve the business environment, attract investors and promote sustainable economic growth through efficient public institutions.
