Peter Obi has backed Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s remarks about President Bola Tinubu. The former Labour Party presidential candidate said Tinubu has done his best but should now leave office.
ABUJA, FCT — Peter Obi has supported comments credited to Pastor Enoch Adeboye regarding the performance of President Bola Tinubu, saying the president has done his best but should “go home and rest.” Obi made the remark while reacting to Adeboye’s position, according to reports circulating on Friday.
According to the reports, Obi agreed that Tinubu had made efforts since assuming office but argued that the country now needs fresh leadership to tackle its economic and social challenges. He maintained that Nigerians deserve leadership that can improve living conditions and restore public confidence.
Speaking on the issue, Obi said Tinubu had contributed what he could and that it was time for another leader to take over. He also aligned his position with the comments attributed to Pastor Adeboye, who reportedly urged reflection on the country’s current situation. However, neither the Presidency nor Pastor Adeboye had issued an official statement responding to the reports at the time of filing this report.
Obi and Tinubu have remained key figures in Nigeria’s political landscape since the 2023 presidential election. The former Anambra State governor has continued to speak on national issues, including the economy, governance and security, while President Tinubu has defended his administration’s economic reforms as necessary for long-term growth.
The development means political discussions ahead of future elections may continue to focus on the performance of the current administration and the alternatives being presented by opposition leaders. Nigerians are expected to watch closely for any official clarification from Pastor Adeboye, the Presidency or other stakeholders regarding the reported comments.
