A 45-year-old woman’s emotional account has stirred conversations online. She claims her husband convinced the family to relocate to Ibadan but never joined them as agreed.
IBADAN, OYO STATE — A 45-year-old Nigerian woman has alleged that her husband persuaded her to leave her successful fashion business in Lagos and relocate with their children to their newly completed home in Ibadan, only to remain in Lagos months after the family moved. She shared her experience in a post that has circulated widely on social media.
According to the woman, she initially resisted the relocation because she had built a thriving tailoring business with about 12 apprentices in Lagos. She said both her family and her husband’s relatives encouraged her to follow her husband, insisting that a wife should live wherever her husband resides. She added that she eventually agreed, distributed her apprentices among trusted fashion designers and relocated with their three children.
The woman alleged that on the day of the move, her husband asked that only her belongings and those of the children be loaded into the moving truck, saying another vehicle would transport his personal items later. She claimed he travelled with the family to Ibadan but returned to Lagos the following day, citing a business contract that required his attention. According to her, weeks turned into months as he repeatedly postponed his return.
She further alleged that after about five months, she travelled to Lagos without informing him and discovered that the family’s former rented apartment had new occupants. She also claimed she visited his workplace but was informed that he was no longer there. According to her, the husband later contacted her and insisted that she and the children should continue living in their Ibadan home while he remained in Lagos, saying he had rented a self-contained apartment for himself because of work.
The woman said she has struggled to rebuild her tailoring business in Ibadan, alleging that many prospective customers negotiate prices far below what she charged in Lagos. She also claimed her husband told her he would only visit from Friday to Sunday once a month and maintained that he would not live in a house where his wife contributed to accommodation costs.
The development means the woman’s account has generated mixed reactions on social media, with many users offering advice on marriage, communication and financial planning.
