LAGOS — May Edochie filed a ₦1.5 billion lawsuit before the Lagos State High Court against Yinka Omolola Theisen, her former lawyer Emeka Ugwuonye, and other unidentified social media users over allegations of cyberbullying, defamation and the unlawful disclosure of private information. Why This Happened

According to the court filing, May Edochie alleged that she had faced coordinated online attacks over several years through multiple blogs, Facebook pages and anonymous social media accounts.

She claimed the publications contained false allegations, manipulated photographs, insulting caricatures, AI-generated images, death wishes and other materials intended to damage her reputation. She also told the court that despite legal notices served on some defendants in 2025 requesting the removal of the content, the alleged publications continued and new accounts were created.

What She Is Asking the Court to Do

In the suit, May Edochie asked the court to order the removal of the social media accounts and posts she identified as defamatory.

She also requested orders compelling social media platforms to disclose information about anonymous account operators to assist investigations. In addition, she is seeking ₦1 billion in damages from Emeka Ugwuonye and ₦500 million from Yinka Omolola Theisen.

The claimant further alleged that Ugwuonye, whom she identified as her former lawyer, disclosed confidential information obtained during legal representation and published materials she described as defamatory and misleading.

Who Is May Edochie?

May Edochie is an entrepreneur and brand influencer who gained widespread public attention following her marital dispute with Nollywood actor Yul Edochie. She has since built a strong social media presence and has secured several endorsement deals.

The current lawsuit is a civil action. The allegations contained in the court documents represent the claimant’s position and have not been determined by the court. The defendants have the opportunity to respond during the legal proceedings.

What This Means for Nigeria

The development means the Lagos State High Court will determine whether the alleged online publications amounted to defamation, cyberbullying or a breach of confidentiality. The case could also address the extent to which courts may compel social media platforms to disclose information about anonymous account holders in civil proceedings.
