President Bola Tinubu has taken another step to reform Nigeria’s education sector. A new bill before the National Assembly seeks to improve the administration of public senior secondary schools nationwide.

ABUJA, FCT — President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a bill to the National Assembly aimed at strengthening the administration and governance of public senior secondary education across Nigeria. According to the Presidency, the proposed legislation seeks to improve the management of senior secondary schools and enhance learning outcomes through a more coordinated national framework.

The proposed bill outlines measures to improve the governance of public senior secondary education and ensure better coordination among relevant education authorities. According to the Federal Government, the initiative forms part of broader efforts to raise educational standards, improve access to quality learning and promote effective policy implementation across the country.

Government officials said the proposed legislation is expected to provide a stronger legal framework for the administration of senior secondary education. They explained that the reforms would support improved planning, accountability and service delivery within the education sector while helping schools meet national development goals. The bill will undergo legislative consideration before it can become law.

Education remains one of the Federal Government’s priority sectors, with recent reforms focusing on expanding access to quality education, improving infrastructure and strengthening institutions. Stakeholders have consistently called for policies that will improve governance, funding and the quality of teaching and learning in public schools across Nigeria.

The development means the National Assembly will examine the proposed legislation before deciding whether to approve it. If lawmakers pass the bill and the President assents to it, the new legal framework could reshape the administration of public senior secondary education and support ongoing efforts to improve learning outcomes for students across Nigeria.
