A fresh appeal from Nollywood actress Cynthia Anijekwu has drawn attention online. The actress said her cancer returned after surgery and chemotherapy, and she now needs urgent financial support to continue treatment.

LAGOS, NIGERIA — Nollywood actress Cynthia Anijekwu has appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance after revealing that her cancer returned despite undergoing surgery and chemotherapy in 2023. Speaking in an emotional video shared online, Anijekwu said doctors recently confirmed that the disease had spread to her bones, making her treatment more demanding and costly. According to her public appeal, she now requires additional medical care, including radiation therapy and another surgery.

The actress said she spends more than ₦600,000 every month on treatment, an amount she described as beyond what her family can continue to afford. According to her statement, she has remained in and out of hospital since the illness returned and continues to receive medical attention as doctors work to manage her condition.

In the emotional message, Cynthia Anijekwu said the illness has taken a heavy physical and emotional toll on her. She explained that one of her hands has become swollen and that the breast where she previously underwent surgery has been affected again. She appealed to Nigerians to support her treatment, saying she wants the opportunity to survive and continue living. “Please, I want to live. I want to survive,” she said, while urging members of the public to contribute any amount they can afford toward her medical expenses.

According to the actress, doctors have advised that she undergo radiation therapy and another surgical procedure as part of her treatment plan. Her appeal has since circulated widely across social media platforms, where many Nigerians have expressed sympathy and offered prayers for her recovery. Others have encouraged well-meaning individuals and organisations to support her fundraising efforts.

The development means Cynthia Anijekwu faces significant financial challenges as she continues treatment for her health condition. It also highlights the growing burden of managing serious illnesses, especially when long-term medical care requires repeated hospital visits and expensive procedures. As her appeal reaches more Nigerians, supporters are expected to continue sharing her message while contributions may help her access the recommended treatment prescribed by her doctors.
