Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has said security agencies should arrest anyone who breaks the law, including his own son, as he denied allegations that criminal suspects are receiving protection inside the Government House.
OSOGBO, OSUN STATE — Governor Ademola Adeleke said no individual is above the law and maintained that law enforcement agencies should arrest and prosecute anyone found to have committed a criminal offence, even if the person is a member of his family. The governor made the remarks while responding to allegations that criminal suspects were being sheltered within the Osun State Government House, according to his public statement.
Adeleke rejected the allegations and described the claims as false. He said his administration has no policy of protecting individuals accused of criminal offences and insisted that security agencies should carry out their duties without interference. According to the governor, the rule of law must apply equally to all citizens regardless of their political status or family connections.
The governor stated, “Arrest my son if he commits a crime.” He said anyone found guilty of violating the law should face the appropriate legal process. Adeleke also criticised the reported transfer of a police officer who allegedly arrested a murder suspect, saying such actions could affect public confidence in law enforcement. At the same time, he commended Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and Deputy Inspector-General Olatunji Disu for promoting discipline, professionalism and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force, according to his statement.
The comments come amid public discussions over policing, accountability and the handling of criminal investigations in Osun State. The state government has continued to deny accusations that it interferes in police operations, while authorities have repeatedly stressed the importance of allowing security agencies to investigate and prosecute criminal cases in line with the law.
