OPM founder Chibuzor Gift Chinenye has offered free accommodation and other support services to South African returnees stranded in Nigeria.
PORT HARCOURT, RIVERS — Chibuzor Gift Chinenye, founder of the Omega Power Ministry (OPM), has announced support measures for Nigerians returning from South Africa, especially those with families. In a public statement, the cleric said some returnees were reportedly sleeping at the airport and urged them to take advantage of facilities provided by the church.
According to Chinenye, OPM has made free accommodation available for affected families until they can rebuild their lives. He said the programme also includes free education for children through the church’s 43 free schools and transportation services to and from school.
The cleric added that children of the returnees would qualify for OPM university scholarships to study in Nigerian universities without sitting for the church’s regular scholarship examination. He also announced free healthcare services through OPM hospitals and promised support for women through small business opportunities and vocational training for men.
Chinenye said the initiative became necessary because many of the returnees allegedly lost their businesses and property during attacks and unrest in South Africa. He stated that the humanitarian programme is fully funded through tithes and offerings from members of OPM Church.
The development means many returning families could receive temporary relief and assistance as they adjust to life back in Nigeria. The offer may also ease the challenges facing stranded returnees and provide opportunities for education, healthcare and economic recovery.
