ILORIN, KWARA STATE — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has announced Reverend Cornelius Fawenu as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election. According to the party, Fawenu will run alongside its governorship candidate, Bolakale Kawu, on the PDP ticket.
According to the party, the selection of Fawenu followed internal consultations aimed at presenting a balanced and competitive ticket ahead of the 2027 governorship election. PDP leaders said the combination of Kawu and Fawenu reflects the party’s commitment to strengthening its campaign across the state.
Party officials described Fawenu as an experienced leader with strong community engagement and expressed confidence that the ticket would appeal to voters across Kwara State. According to the PDP, the candidates will continue consultations with stakeholders as preparations for the election gather momentum.
The announcement comes as political parties across Nigeria continue to position themselves for the 2027 general elections through consultations, strategic alliances and the selection of candidates. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is expected to release the official timetable for party primaries and other election activities in line with the Electoral Act.
The development means the Kwara PDP has completed another key step in its preparations for the 2027 governorship race. The party is expected to intensify grassroots mobilisation, policy engagements and campaign planning as it seeks to challenge for control of the state in the next election cycle.
